Bridging the gap between general doctors and specialists to improve healthcare system in Nagaland, the state government has drastically changed existing health service rules and amalgamated two directorates of health care administration into a single department.
Announcing Friday's cabinet decision to this effect, Health and Family Welfare minister Dr TM Lotha told newsmen in Kohima that the two existing directorates of medical services and health services would be amalgamated into a single directorate to be named as the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare.
With the amalgamation of the two directorates, the two warring doctors association, one representing general doctors and the other comprising specialists, would automatically become a single platform, bringing to end 14 years of bitter rivalry among the government doctors, which many a time crippled health care delivery system in the state.
Highlighting various chenges made in the existing service rules for medical professionals, Lotha exuded confidence that the new rules would ensure better service conditions, promotional evenues for the government doctors in the state.
The minister said the ammended rules, formulated after the high power committee submitted its report to the government, would improve the healthcare system in rural areas as the new rules would ensure medical and paramedical staff in community health cenres (CHC), primary health centres (PHC).
