The State Election Commission has already issued notification in this regard last week fixing November 16 as the date for filing nominations.

Simultaneous polling will be held on the day for three municipal councils of Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung and 16 town councils even as tenure of certain town committees is yet to be completed, official sources said.

The sources said the government decided to hold municipal elections in all the towns in the state to give more powers to urban local bodies under the amended act.

The government amended the Assam Town Committee Act, 1956 and formed municipal councils and town councils as per the provisions of the 74th constitutional amendment.
