The average rainfall is 55 mm in the division but the number of rainy days are important or good rains for a number of days is much more important for the crop, especially in paddy growing areas like Bhandara, Gondia and Chandrapur districts, Sharma told PTI.

Sharma said the government was promoting water users co-operative societies in the division as more than 325 such societies have been formed last year and this year there will be an addition of 250 more such societies which are working in the field of water conservation.

This year, the government has engaged 2.75 lakh people, including 5,943 labourers of gram sadak yojana, majority of them working in water conservation work while paying them Rs 16,50,000 per day, he said adding, the division has completed 17,037 water conservation works during last year.
