In the continuing war of words over river water sharing, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has written yet another letter to the Centre seeking direction to neighbouring Karnataka to immediately halt works on the controversial Paragodu project as it clearly violated inter-state river water agreements.
"This (Paragodu project) is not solely a drinking water project but only made to appear so by grossly distorting population figures," Naidu said in a letter addressed to Union Water Resources Minister Arjun Charan Sethi.
Naidu also urged the Centre to direct the upper riparian Karnataka to stop construction on Upper Tunga project as it had 'deliberately under-reported their utilisation of waters' while seeking clearance from Central Water Commission (CWC).
"It is clear that Karnataka has been utilising much more than what it is entitled for in the Tungabhadra basin," the Chief Minister said.
