NaMo ditches Modi kurta, turns formal

Known for favouring bandhgalas worn over the trademark, half-sleeved ‘Modi Kurta’, NaMo changed it up for the occasion in a light coloured, underplayed ensemble.

“This is his new look — more formal, and well put-together. Modi chose a full-sleeved kurta which suited the seriousness of the grand event,” said fashion designer Rina Dhaka.

Fashion Design Council of India president, Sunil Sethi, also gave a thumbs up to the outfit. “I think he kept it austere with the organic, dull cappuccino waistcoat worn over the khadi silk kurta and churidaar. In true spirit of the occasion, it was lovely to see the lotus being replaced by an Indian tricolour pin,” he said.

While Uma Bharti’s choice of the BJP’s signature saffron came as no surprise, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, also chose to add to the tangerine touch. Some colour was also added by Nitin Gadkari in a stylish midnight blue version which he wore over his kurta.
