Narayanasamy was accompanied by DMK's Puducherry unit convener R V Janakiraman, PCC president A V Subramanian, Puducherry Munnetra Congress founder P Kannan and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi convener (Puducherry unit) S Paavanan.

Narayanasamy told newsmen later that his name was proposed by the four leaders. He is pitted against PMK's sitting MP M Ramadoss who also filed his nomination today. PMK is part of the AIADMK front.

Puducherry goes to polls in the last phase on May 13. Former Chief Minister N.Rangasamy, whom Naryanasamy had met over the past few days seeking support, was, however, conspicuous by his absence.

Earlier,a procession of the DMK-led front of which Congress is a constituent was taken out. Narayanasamy and other leaders took part. Rangasamy, who was replaced as Chief Minister following a sustained revolt against him by almost all Congress legislators in August last, is keeping silent on his strategy.
