PROBABLY STILL annoyed with the trade unions for going on a ‘chakka’ jam strike two months ago despite his warning, Transport Minister Naresh Agrawal today announced various measures to rein in the employees’ leaders.
The office-bearers of any employees’ union will not be allotted any separate room to sit in the regional offices, and they will have to sit at the place of work only.
The union leaders will have no exemption from routine transfers merely because they represent a trade union and they will be transferred like any other regular employee. Also, they will not be allowed to engage in a dialogue at the regional manager level. Their demands or any other issue will be discussed at a state-level meeting only.
More significantly, the employees who indulged in “goondaism’ instead of doing the work for which they were paid will be removed forthwith.
Agrawal issued these directions while presiding over a UPSRTC officers’ meeting called to review the corporation’s work progress. The Minister directed the management to merge the Shahjahanpur Depot in the Hardoi region and the Hamirpur Depot in the Kanpur Region for better results.
He asked the officials to study why the private buses were carrying more passengers and earning more revenue despite being not punctual. He stressed the need for plying more mini and ‘Janata’ buses. He expressed concern over overlapping of buses on various routes and asked the officials to put an end to the practice.
