If all goes well, people of Ujjain and nearby areas may soon quench their thirst from Narmada water as Water Work Committee from Ujjain is focusing on the ambitious project to bring Narmada water from Triveni Bairaj to Gaughat.

Team officials from the Water Works Department with Ujjain Municipal Corporation on Tuesday visited Gaughat, Triveni and Khan River. During the visit, officials examined the possibility to bring water through pipeline.

The project cost is around Rs 30 crore and Water Work Committee president Prakash Sharma asked corporation officials to prepare detailed project report.

Sharma said that at present Gambhir dam is the only water source for Ujjain and its neighbouring areas. Sevarkheri dam project has already been hit by controversies and all the funds for dam went back.

"Keeping tab on all this, we have been looking for another source of water supply for a long time ahead of forthcoming Simhastha Mela scheduled to be held in 2016," Sharma said.
