Kalmadi, who visited the stadium on Friday, claimed it would be the best hockey stadium in the world once the renovation was complete.

"I must echo what the International Hockey Federation President Mr Leandro Negre said. This will be the best hockey stadium in the world," Kalmadi said.

A four-nation tournament would take place at the stadium from January 13 to 17, 2010 as a test event for the Commonwealth Games, he said.

Kalmadi said the 20,000-seater stadium would also have adequate floodlights to cater to the needs of the high definition broadcast during the Commonwealth Games.

"Not only will the spectators in the stadium will have better facilities but also those watching the telecast will enjoy the experience," he said.
