Former external affairs minister K Natwar Singh on Tuesday replied to a notice from his Congress party asking why he should not be expelled for his involvement in Iraq's oil-for-food scam but its contents were not immediately known.
"We have received the reply. The next procedure will be decided at the meeting of the disciplinary action committee (DAC) at a date to be decided," DAC head AK Antony told reporters.
Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Motilal Vora and Urmila Singh are the other members of the committee.
Natwar Singh was issued the notice earlier this month after Justice RS Pathak Inquiry Authority validated the report of a UN probe headed by former US Federal Reserve head Paul Volcker that found the former minister and his son Jagat Singh to be involved in the Iraqi scam.
The veteran Congress leader has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing, saying neither the Volker report nor the Pathak report showed he or his son had benefited from the Iraqi deals.
Natwar Singh also made a statement along these lines in Parliament. His reply to the Congress notice is believed to be along similar lines.
