Sporting black flags and banners against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Sidhu, who is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha member from Amritsar, and his supporters squatted on the railway track at the Amritsar station, delaying the departure of the Amritsar-Ambala train.

Sidhu accused the central government of discriminating against Amritsar by not extending the Ludhiana-Mumbai rail freight corridor till Amritsar.

"This freight corridor is our right and we will have it. If the BJP comes to power, it will be sanctioned within three months. This corridor is essential for Amritsar to enable business and industry to grow in this area," Sidhu said.
