Demanding the inquiry, Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Alok Agarwal on Friday said several families displaced by projects such as the Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams had yet not been resettled.

Norms had also been flouted during the rehabilitaion process, he alleged.

Besides taking corrective steps, the state government should immediately conduct surveys in Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar Dam areas and rehabilitate and compensate the affected, he said.

Seeking justice and proper rehabilitation, the displaced people at the Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Man, Beda and Bargi project areas took out a march and began a three-day sit-in here today, Agarwal said.

The protesters asserted that they would not accept "exclusion and poverty any more and prevent the government from pushing them towards death," he said, adding the displaced also want a public audit of actual benefits of large dams already built in the Narmada valley.

Even dams like Bargi built 20 years ago was yet to deliver irrigation facilities, the NBA activist said.
