Ruling National Conference (NC) on Friday expressed apprehensions of use of "security forces' sources, informers and counter-insurgency operatives" by the BJP in the Kashmir Valley.
"BJP is using (former inspector general of police) Farooq Khan and (former Punjab police chief) KPS Gill to re-activate their networks of informers, sources and mercenary counter-insurgents in the state," alleged NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu.
He alleged services of these people are acquired to "reach Mission 44 in J&K".
"By empowering these former counterinsurgency figures and pioneers of the task force and special operation groups, the BJP was planning to use tactically the network of sources and informers ahead of the assembly elections," said Mattu.
He also criticised People's Democratic Party for roping in counter insurgency specialist Ashiq Bukhari.
"Re-institutionalisation of ex-informers and sources in a state that has witnessed a prolonged political turmoil is not only problematic but fraught with the danger of being a provocation for further internal strife and unrest," warned Mattu.
"One of these counter-insurgency pioneers empowered by the BJP has been allegedly involved in fake encounters and harrowing extra-judicial counter-insurgency activities," he alleged.
The allegations have come in the background of the BJP fielding candidates from most of the 46 seats of the Kashmir Valley for the first time. It has been able to cobble together tactical alliances with smaller groups and individuals to form a majority government.
