Announcing this at a press conference here Thursday, the newly appointed president of its spate unit L Wanglat said as of now applications for party tickets have been received for 56 seats from leaders most of whom belong to ruling Congress and some from the BJP.

After his talks with NCP president Sharad Pawar and General secretary P A Sangma in New Delhi recently, a 16- member Pradesh Election Committee has been constituted which will shortlict the cadid`tes for approval by the high command*

"If we fail to field candidates anywhere we will support other like minded parties but will not have any elecdoral alliance", Wanglat, who held important portfolios like home and finance, said.

The state had earlier witnessed the defdction of all nine BJP and two NCP MLAs electEd in the 2004 assembly polls to the ruling Congress.

The ruling Congress has a tally of 44 seats, Arunachal Congress-2 afd Independents-14 in the 60-member House at present.
