In a release in Puducherry on Sunday, G Sundaramoorthy, President local unit NCP, said there should be a "permanent arrangement" and 50 per cent of seats available in all the private medical and engineering colleges in the Union Territory should be earmarked for students sponsored by Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) of the government.

Territorial administration should introduce a legislation in the next session of the Assembly to ensure 50 per cent seats in private professional colleges to the government sponsored candidates, he said.

NCP demanded that the administration scrap the recent amendment on the scheme for granting full reimbursement of fees paid by those students under the government quota. The criterias - income ceiling and marks - fixed by the administration would not benefit majority of the schemes and hence it should be scrapped and status quo ante should be adopted, he added.
