Ghaziabad tops the list of constituencies with maximum number of candidates with criminal charges against them. This is according to a survey conducted by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) for the 4th phase of elections in UP, reports Peeyush Khandelwal.

Ghaziabad tops the list of constituencies with maximum number of candidates with criminal charges against them.

This is according to a survey conducted by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) for the 4th phase of elections in Uttar Pradesh. The data was collected from the affidavits the candidates submitted.

Gautam Buddh Nagar (GBN) comes second among the eight ‘red-alert’ constituencies. Between them, the two constituencies have 13 candidates who face charges under various sections of the IPC.

As per the survey, Ghaziabad constituency has seven candidates and GBN constituency has six such candidates.

The ‘red-alert’ constituencies are defined on the criteria where there are three or more candidates contesting with criminal background.

As per the report, Ghaziabad candidates Sanjay Sharma, Vinod, BJP national president Rajnath Singh, Congress’ Surendra Prakash Goyal, former Ghaziabad MP Anwar Ahmed, Samar Singh and Iqbal have criminal charges against them.

Candidates from GBN constituency include four-time former BJP MP and current Congress candidate Ramesh Chand Tomar, Surendra S Nagar, Narendra S Bhatti, Manoj, Mahesh K Sharma and Dr Jamal Ahamad Khan.

The other candidates from Ghaziabad, Sanjay Sharma and Vinod have Section 307 (attempt to murder) against their names. Samar Singh and former MP Anwar Ahmed have charges under Section 302 (murder) against their names.

From GBN, Ramesh Chand Tomar and Narendra S Bhatti have Section 307 charges against their names.
