Differences on Wednesday cropped up in the NDA with BJP and JD(U) expressing divergent views on Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's call for an all-party meeting on January 20 over court notices in connection with the expulsion of MPs after a cash-for-query TV sting.
While BJP described as "inappropriate" the Speaker's call, senior JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav "welcomed" the initiative taken by Chatterjee for evolving a consensus on protecting Parliament's right to act against members engaging in activities that bring the sovereign institution to disrepute.
After a meeting with top BJP leader, its parliamentary party spokesman VK Malhotra told reporters that the party believed the meeting could amount to generating a clash between the judiciary and legislature.
"Such a meeting is inappropriate," he said.
He said the BJP would decide on attending the all-party meeting after consulting NDA partners.
On the other hand, the JD(U) Parliamentary Board Chairman supported the Speaker's stand against judicial interference in Parliament's decision to expel MPs caught on camera accepting bribe for raising questions.
Yadav said his party was of the view that "drastic action" was warranted against MPs who put a price tag on their privilege to raise questions.

{{/usCountry}}During the winter session of Parliament, JD(U) had refused to endorse BJP's objection on procedural ground to the motion for expulsion of 10 Lok Sabha and one Rajya Sabha member.
