He said that it was a personal victory of the Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi, who had emerged as one of the tallest leaders of the party at the national level.

Thakur who is camping in Samirpur, his native village, these days said the downfall of the Congress party had started and it would face its Waterloo in the coming general elections. He said that people of India were all set to form the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

The BJYM chief came down heavily on the Congress-led UPA government depriving the poor of their quota of subsidised foodgrain due to collapse of the Public Distribution System.

He said the law and order situation in the state had worsened ever since the Congress government took over, while pointing out the recent rape of a foreigner in Manali.
