"Kejriwal passed a proposal to implement 50% tariff reduction on consumption of electricity up to 400 units and provide 20 kilolitres of water free to all households in NDMC areas," a senior NDMC official said.

"The schemes together are set to cost the civic agency Rs 22.5 crore, which the Delhi government will reimburse.

The scheme will be implemented with effect from today (Saturday)," he added.

Slashing tariffs by half for those who consume up to 400 units will benefit as much as 73% of the total consumers in NDMC areas.

"NDMC itself distributes power in areas under its jurisdiction and has 70,000 consumers out of which 44,000 are domestic consumers. From the total domestic consumers, the power subsidy is going to benefit 32,000," the official said.

The decision is in line with AAP government's subsidy schemes for power and electricity.
