Need for best designers growing: Dhande

Addressing the participants, Dr Dhande said in the changing scenario there was a growing demand for best designers worldwide. He said the educational institutions had been advised by the Union HRD Ministry for taking a long perspective in the design programme to meet the growing demand for expert designers. He said the information about designing should be put under a single umbrella and the stress should be laid on quality designing. Courses in designing should be comprehensive and meaningful, he said.

Dr Dhande said there were ample opportunities in the designing sector but this branch should no be allowed to thrive in isolation. Active participation of the producers, industrialists and technocrats are needed for the success of the course, he said.

Referring to the annual function of the design programme, he said funds be raised through sponsorships as it would not be possible for a long time to shell out funds from the institute. He advised that the design experts from reputed companies should be invited to the institutions to guide the students in their ventures.

Speaking about the Design Programme at the Institute, the Head of the Department of the Design Dr Amit Ray said the existing programme at the Institute was conceived as a centre for creative minds, which encourages students to bring in synthesis of varied knowledge domains to create innovative solutions towards betterment of society.

Most of the students of the first batch were employed with very good companies and many new companies had offered for holding campus interview. Earlier, the function coordinator Girish welcomed the guests.
