Need to check release of sewage into Ganga

NOTED ENVIRONMENTALIST and chairman of Sankat Mochan Foundation Prof Veer Bhadra Mishra has stressed the need of an effective check on release of untreated sewage water into the Ganga in Varanasi and Allahabad. Addressing a meet of Dandi Swamis as part of the ?Clean Ganga? campaign at Tulsi Ghat in Varanasi on Tuesday evening, Prof Mishra said the ?Clean Ganga? campaign could get success until the release of untreated sewage water into the Ganga was restricted.

Addressing a meet of Dandi Swamis as part of the ‘Clean Ganga’ campaign at Tulsi Ghat in Varanasi on Tuesday evening, Prof Mishra said the ‘Clean Ganga’ campaign could get success until the release of untreated sewage water into the Ganga was restricted. Sankat Mochan Foundation and Swaraj (Oxfam) of Bangalore had organised the programme.

He called upon the people to ensure that not a single drop of untreated sewage water was released into the Ganga. He also requested the government to implement the project of Ganga cleanliness forwarded by the Sankat Mochan Foundation.

Dandi Swami Yogiraj, Swami Chandra Prakash and Swami Shyam Deo said release of human waste into the Ganga was an insult to Ganga and Bhagirathi. Director of Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Prof SN Upadhyay also stressed the need to ensure a pollution-free Ganga.
