Neetu Chandra, a martial arts expert?

While Rann sees her playing a Muslim model, Apartment will bring out the small-towner in her. Besides films, the actress may soon reprise the role of a martial arts expert in the sequel to the video game, The Killer Game Story: 3000 AD. Rajesh Ahuja tells more.

Even as her peers complain about taking home low pay cheques, this babe has seen a steady hike with her recent critically acclaimed performances. She’s making the right moves and getting paid well for each one of them. “God’s been kind; I haven’t been asked to take a pay cut yet. Maybe the directors really want me to stick around,” says Neetu Chandra on her recent trip to the Capital to partake in a charity event organised by Gitanjali.

Six releases old, what works for Neetu is her sense of discretion... barring debacles like One Two Three though. “One… didn’t do well commercially but people loved me as a Jatt cop in it. I’ve managed to get good offers only after that film,” she states. The “good” ones she mentions include Ram Gopal Varma’s Rann and Jag Mundhra’s Apartment. Rann’s theme track, the one that got Varma a legal suit as a present, has a fan in Neetu. “I liked the song when I heard it for the first time. Though I was shocked, I didn’t anticipate this big a furore. It’s got amazing lyrics,” she says.

While Rann sees her playing a Muslim model, Apartment will bring out the small-towner in her. Rubbishing rumours of catfights with co-star Tanushree Dutta on the sets, she hits back, “Nothing went wrong between us. My directors have always shown faith in me, so the presence of other actresses doesn’t matter.”
