In a remark on negligent doctors that could lead to a major controversy, Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Friday openly talked of use of violence to rein in errant medical practitioners.

“If doctors are found careless in treatment of the poor, then their (doctors’) hands will be chopped off. And, I am ready to face any consequence for this. Doctors who play with lives of the poor will not be spared. (Garibon ke treatment ke mamle mein doctors agar careless paaye gaye to unka haath kaat liya jayega. Iske liye mujhe jo bhi parinam bhugatana pade, main bhugatane ke liye taiyar hoon. Garibon ke jiwan se khelne waale doctors bakshe nahin jayenge),” said Manjhi.

He was addressing a gathering at Pakridayal, nearly 12 km from the East Champaran district headquarters Motihari, after inaugurating a subdivisional hospital there. He was on way back to Patna after a two-day visit to the district.
