He was speaking during a felicitation function organised by Pashupatinath Mahadeo Temple and Dharamshala Sanchalak Samiti at Lalita Ghat in Varanasi on Friday.

About Maoists’ violent activities in Nepal, Pandey said violence was not the way to solve problems. “The problems of Maoists can only be solved through peaceful dialogue,” he said.

Pandey said the Nepalese recent election of corporations had been successfully conducted and the Nepal king was committed to conducting Parliamentary elections in 2007. He further added that democracy would be restored only after ensuring peace and harmony in Nepal.

Pandey paid obeisance at Lalita Ghat-based Pashupatinath temple and took stock of vridha ashram. First secretary of Nepalese Embassy, Lekh Nath Bhatrai was accompanying the foreign minister.

It may be mentioned that Pashupatinath temple and vriddha ashram are run with the assistance of Nepal Government.

He said Nepal’s cultural relations with Varanasi were very old.

The committee members urged the foreign minister to increase the monetary assistance to the vridha ashram and temple.

The foreign minister assured them to consider their demands and said them to send a written memo in this regard. Ganga Prasad Adhikari of the samiti welcomed the guests whereas Hari Prasad Adhikari proposed a vote of thanks.
