Prem Lal had sustained bullet injuries in Bardia district of Nepal from where he was rushed to Lucknow. The doctors at the Trauma Centre reported him as ‘brought dead.’

A ruckus broke out when the doctors asked for a post-mortem examination of the body but the attendants argued that they should be allowed to take the body back without sending it to the mortuary.

For hours together doctors, junior residents and Trauma Centre staff tried to convince the family members but they did not approve of the postmortem. Finally, varsity authorities had to intervene to explain the importance of postmortem.

One among several injured Nepalese demanding democracy in the Himalayan kingdom, Prem was rushed to Uttar Pradesh for treatment. At first the attendants tried to get him admitted to a private hospital but later brought him to the KGMU.

Uttar Pradesh has been catering to the healthcare needs of the people of Nepal at times of crisis or during epidemic. Hundreds of Nepalese come for treatment at specialty and super-specialty hospitals here.

They go to hospitals mostly in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Allahabad and Lucknow. Varanasi too has been the home of Nepal politics in 1980s. As per Prem’s attendants, he was injured during cross fire in Bardiya (Nepal) on Thursday.
