The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has threatened to launch an agitation against BSNL at Dimapur from November 9 unless the Government agrees to refrain from privatising BSNL's operations in the state.

"Private companies come to the northeast only to exploit the region and not for the betterment of the people," NESO general secretary NSN Lotha said.

The agitation would include "total picketing" of the BSNL's offices in Dimapur, Lotha said, adding that decision to launch the agitation was taken in consultation with the Naga Students' Federation. The Dimapur Naga Students Union will lead the movement.

NESO condemned the Government's decision to privatise 74 per cent of BSNL. Lotha also lambasted the BSNL for its poor CellOne mobile connectivity, calling it the "busiest service network limited".

NSF president, Pushika Awomi said the students had raised these issues to defend the rights of the local people.
