EIGHTY PER cent of the 4,727 candidates registered for the National Eligibility Test (NET) of University Grants Commission (UGC) appeared for the examination on the D-day on Sunday.
The exams passed off peacefully under the watchful eyes of UGC observers and Allahabad University (AU) invigilators at the university's 14 centres.
A total of 3,791 candidates appeared for the NET-2006 examination that were conducted in three shifts.
UGC NET-06 co-ordinator Prof HN Mishra informed that the examination was conducted as per schedule and that no untoward incident was reported from any of the centres during the test.
"The UGC observers deputed for the job kept an eye over the proceedings and working of the AU authorities during the examination. They have also prepared a report of the test conducted and will be submitting it to the UGC authorities," he said.
The UGC observers expressed satisfaction over the arrangements for the examination.
Former Dean Commerce Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Prof M Rehman and Prof Archana Sharma, Head of Political Science Department, Meerut University, who were here as UGC observers during the examination praised the efforts of AU administration and invigilators for conducting the NET examination strictly following the UGC rules.
They said that they had inspected the rooms, ventilation, lighting, drinking water facility and toilets to make sure that the students do not suffer during the exams. Prof Rehman said: " I had visited AU earlier and conducted examination but the arrangements this time were flawless".
