Cardiologist Dr Girish Kavthekar performed the technique on a 20-year-old boy, Jawarsing from village Kadia (Rajgarh district), who was suffering from a defect known as Atrialseptal. In this defect a hole gets formed in the heart wall of the patient because of which pure and impure blood get mixed. This results in breathlessness and recurrent respiratory tract infection.

Dr Kavthekar used the latest state-of-the-art flat panel digital angiography machine that enabled correct visualisation and accuracy of approach despite the size of the defect. Bhandari Hospital is the only one in the State to have this machine.

The procedure included introduction of an artificial device (umbrella) through a probe and closing of hole with the help of angiography machine and this device.
