New Orissa High Court chief justice sworn in

Justice V Gopala Gowda, a senior judge of the Karnataka High Court, was today sworn in the chief justice of the Orissa High Court.

Justice V Gopala Gowda, a senior judge of the Karnataka High Court, was on Thursday sworn in the chief justice of the Orissa High Court.

Sworn-in by Orissa Governor Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare at the Orissa High Court premises in Cuttack, he takes charge from acting Chief Justice Ishrat Masroor Quddusi, who has been transferred to the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Born Oct 6, 1951, Justice Gopala Gowda enrolled as an advocate in 1975 and practiced in the Karnataka High Court. He was appointed an additional judge in the high court in June 1997 and a permanent judge in June 1999.
