Like his predecessors Uma Bharti and Babulal Gaur, Chouhan also spoke of cow as being the focus of his government to bring about the desired change in the rural economy.

He also announced a ‘kanyadan’ scheme to be started in every district under which the government would provide financial assistance for the marriages of orphan girls and the chief minister himself or the members of his cabinet would offer ‘kanyadan’ to the girls.

He was welcomed by a stream of workers and others with garlands, shawls and portraits etc at the dais for about 45 minutes. The welcome business came to an end only when the CM intervened to stop it as dusk was approaching fast. The meeting venue and the areas nearby were nearly plastered with posters, banners and party flags.

In all, there was every attempt to project Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s mass following as being far bigger than that of Uma Bharti. Targeting the Congress in his speech he said there were those who did not like his becoming the chief minister. He was made the chief minister by 157 MLAs. But the Congress demanded his resignation on a flimsy ground that a warrant was pending against him.

Explaining the background of his participating in the movement at Obaidullahganj which led to the court case against him he said he had taken part in over 100 movements and borne the brunt of police’s lathis at least a dozen times.
He did all this to ensure that people’s grievances were redressed. He was not bothered to face even one thousand cases for the sake of people’s cause, declared the CM.

Chouhan said when his resignation was demanded on a flimsy ground he decided he would not resign from his post. In fact, he was not going to step down till he ensured Madhya Pradesh was out of BIMARU states.
