New Zealand picked up three points with a 5-1 victory against Wales in their opening pool B match of the women's hockey competition in the 19th Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi on Monday.
The Kiwis had to work for their win that was built on goals by Katie Glynn (18th), Gemma Flynn (38th), Anna Thorpe (52nd, 60th) and Claissa Eshuis (69th) while Wales, who initially kept pace with their opponents, scored through Abigail Welsford (33rd).
