According to Sayongitaganj police, strong circumstantial evidence was found in the case pointing the needle of suspicion towards the parents, specially the father Hemraj Malviya. It was found that the woman who was alleged to have abducted the infant was seen roaming with him in the early hours of the morning yesterday.

The manner in which he had been directed by the supposedly strange woman to fetch a cup of tea, complying which he had gone downstairs leaving the mother and child alone, and the ease with which the woman had managed to walk out of the hospital with the child had created the suspicion.

Moreover, the couple had displayed strange behaviour in the hospital, remained quiet and calm most of the time and had not even notified the police, which was done by the hospital staff. This and other cracks in Malviya’s story present a picture in the eyes of the police in which he appears to be a suspect.

Though investigating officer N K Gujar declined to comment, he conceded that certain evidence and discrepancy in accounts of those whose statements had been taken would ensure to bring the guilty to justice soon.
