In a sensational incident which would make one's blood run cold, a newly-born child was lifted by an unidentified woman from the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital's ward number four in the wee hours today.
The baby boy was sleeping next to the mother when this woman picked up the child and slipped away. The child's mother and father were fast asleep when this incident took place.
Another person sensing the intention of the woman while she was hurrying out of the ward shouted foul but it was too late as the child was whisked away on a scooty reportedly being driven by a girl.
The manner in which the child lifting was carried out makes amply clear that the entire episode was pre-planned. Even the girl driving the scooty had kept the engine running to avoid any slip at the last moment.
According to reports Kusum Lata (35) resident of Khurd Asrawal under Pipri police station in the neighbouring Kaushambi district had been admitted to the SRN Hospital on November 22. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy on November 24. Meanwhile, a woman started coming to see Kusum on the pretext that she too was an attendant of a delivery case.
The woman had become quite friendly with Kusum who had no inkling about her intentions. On the bed next to her one Seema Pandey had given birth to a girl child. Her husband Anil Pandey was awake at the time of the incident.
But he too took a few seconds to realize that something wrong was being done.
Though he shouted at the top of his voice shaking Kusum and her husband from sleep but the woman by this time had managed to sit on the two-wheeler and get away.

The SRNH police outpost came into action after getting the news. Sub Inspector Arvind Kumar made an attempt to find out the boy but failed.
Sources said, there were no security guards at the gate when the incident took place. The nurse on duty was also reportedly not there.
