THE ACADEMIC environment of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) is likely to witness remarkable changes in its existing educational system from the next academic session.

Director of IIT-K Dr Sanjay G Dhande and the Dean of Student Affair Dr Prawal Sinha told the Hindustan Times that they were highly concerned about the welfare of the students and at no cost the education system would be allowed to deprive the students of their right to live stress free.
Dr Sinha said that a sub committee would soon be constituted to entertain all the suggestions given by the students or by the faculty members in connection with introducing certain reforms in the present day educational curriculum. The committee would screen the suggestions and after serious deliberations issue a white paper on the proposed reforms.
The recommendations of the committee would be forwarded to the Board of Governors for their approval. “However, one thing is certain that we will come out with positive decisions by July 2006 and all the reforms will be visible”, said Dr Sinha.
Dr Sinha said, “It appears that the whole educational system has shaken up and it would have to be re-structured in the wider interest of the society and the student community in particular.” Dr Sinha said that though several reforms were introduced at the IIT-K during the past years to make the students stress free, but for certain reasons they could not reap good results.
