Activists OF non-governmental organisation AGNI (Action for Good Governance and Networking in India) are leaving no stone unturned to register new voters and curb bogus voting in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
On Sunday, around 30 activists of the NGO conducted an electoral photo identity programme (EPIC) for Assembly constituency 166 at St Vincent Palloti Church.
The organisation used its own cameras and laptop for the programme, which was monitored by officials of the Election Registration Office. AGNI had conducted a similar programme on June 28.
“Our main motive is to curtail bogus voting. The programme was a way of creating awareness about photo identity cards and urge more people to get registered,” said James John, an AGNI activist.
“Most people are not aware of the documents they require and also details to be filled in the form. We are trying our best to help them,” said Venu Gopal, an AGNI volunteer.
Around 280 people registered for photo identity cards on Sunday. Another 1,000 people registered as first time voters while 400 got their addresses changed.
