NGOs should make people aware about RTI: Hazare

Talking to newsmen, he said, it was unfortunate that most of the NGOs have shifted their attention towards their publicity and getting more funds in the form of grants from different sources. They hardly fulfill the goals, which had actually prompted them to form an NGO.

Heading a “Bhrashtachar Virodhi Andolan” in Maharashtra, Hazare said it was due to their efforts that the RTI Act was first implemented in the State in the year 2002 and the organization started creating awareness among the rural people about their rights under the Act.

He said that in fact the RTI should have been passed in the 1951 so that the people could know the utilization of the money generated through them by the government agencies. Now after the passing of the Act it has become the duty of the NGOs and the government to join hands in informing the people about the work done by the government for their welfare and should punish those who fail to utilize the public funds in an appropriate manner.
