Eight CPI(M) supporters were on Thursday arrested from Tekhali Bazar in Nandigram as about 300 CRPF personnel patrolled the area ensuring peace even as a six-member NHRC team is slated to visit the troubled area to chalk out remedial measures.
The Superintendent of Police, East Midnapur, Satyeshwar Panda said three youth were arrested for moving around in a suspicious manner on motorcycles without licence.
Panda, however, said the situation remained peaceful.
An NHRC team, headed by Senior Superintendent of Police SP Singh, is visiting the area to ascertain whether there had been any lapses on the part of the local police and authorities.
The NHRC team will also chalk out remedial measures to rehabilitate those affected by violence and suggest how peace can be established in the region to offset the recurrence of such incidents.
Meanwhile, district Congress secretary and BUPC member Milan Pradhan alleged that two supporters of Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee were on Thursday injured at Sonachura here when they were beaten up by CPI(M) activists before the CRPF arrived for patrolling.
The SP said he had received information about the incident and was sending the CRPF to the spot.

Three companies (about 300 personnel) of the CRPF are stationed at Tamluk, about 50 kms from here, and are patrolling areas of Nandigram from 11 am to 10 pm.
The BUPC member said the injured were rushed to a primary health centre at Nandigram.
