National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths are desperately looking for two persons who visited Kolkata from Assam, met a man at Khidirpore in Kolkata and left for Burdwan. While NIA officials are worried as the duo has vanished after the Burdwan blast, they are equally disturbed by the fact that the Khidirpore-based person would help them procure false voter identity cards and fake passports.
“According to information, one of them is named Sarfraz. After coming from Assam, they stayed in Salt Lake and went to Khidirpore to meet their contact and left for Burdwan,” said an NIA officer requesting anonymity. He refused to disclose the second name.
The NIA’s discovery points to a fake identity document making ‘factory’ in Khidirpore. NIA has found out that the duo used to come to Khidirpore to carry fake voter identity cards and passports for different people linked to the terror module.
The findings seem to seal the Assam link to the October 2 Burdwan blast. The NIA is also not ruling out the suspicion that the duo carried cash for the terror operatives, though the sleuths are certain that their primary assignment was to collect and carry fake identity proofs.
The CID had, in an earlier report, mentioned the Assam link to the case. The CID had said that a dentist and his wife were crucial to the plot.
