NIT-Rourkela to confer Kalam with honorary Dsc

Former president APJ Abdul Kalam will be awarded a honorary DSc at the annual convocation of the National Institute of Technology in Rourkela on January 16.

Former president APJ Abdul Kalam will be awarded a honorary DSc at the annual convocation of the National Institute of Technology in Rourkela on January 16.

Kalam has given his consent to be the chief guest on the occasion and chairman of NIT board of governors Drona Rath will preside over the seventh convocation of the institute, NIT director Sunil Kumar Sarangi told reporters in Rourkela on Thursday.

Besides, the distinguished Alumnus-2009 awards will be conferred on former HAL Bangalore chairman N R Mohanty (1965 batch), entrepreneur Sukhendu Mishra (1969 batch) and IIT-Kharagpur director Damodar Acharya (1970 batch), he said.

A total of 326 B Tech, 135 M Tech, 20 M Tech (research) 30 MCA, 27 MSc and 13 Phd students will be awarded degrees on the occasion, he added.
