Nithari case was 'hair raising', says CBI judge

CBI judge Rama Jain, while handing out death sentences to Moninder Singh Pandher and Surinder Koli for the rape and murder of 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar and her cannibalisation, described the case as "hair raising".

Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge Rama Jain, while handing out death sentences to businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and his domestic help Surinder Koli for the rape and murder of 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar and her cannibalisation, described the case as "hair raising" and their act as "a blot on society and stain on the present generation".

In the concluding part of her 59-page judgment, the judge said: "On the basis of comparative analysis and behaviour and respective lawyers' arguments, I reach the conclusion that both accused have posed a great threat to society and to humanity by their ugliest act against humanity.

"The case of Rimpa Haldar is a hair raising, barbaric act of an innocent 14 year old child becoming the victim of their lust. She was not only murdered but brutally cut into pieces, the body wrapped in polythene bags and before dumping her remains, her flesh was cooked into meat and then was eaten by the criminals.

"Such acts are against society, against womanhood, against the poor and against the spirit of the constitution. It is against social justice and is a blot on society and stain on the present generation."

Judge Jain was pronouncing the sentencing in the first of the several cases filed against Pandher and Koli in the Nithari serial killings.

The skulls, bones and other remains of 19 children and women were discovered from the drain behind Pandher's D-5 Noida home near Nithari village in December 2006.
