Not only did he suggest that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi be named the party’s prime ministerial candidate, he also came down heavily on the BJP, JD(U) and the CBI.

“I was sent to jail as part of a conspiracy by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and BJP. The seeds were sown by them, the CBI harvested it,” Prasad said. “UN Biswas (former CBI officer) was rewarded with a ministerial berth in West Bengal. The BJP even wanted to make him a governor during the NDA rule at the Centre.”

Supporting Gandhi’s stance on the Ordinance aiming to keep convicted lawmakers in office, Prasad said he was the fittest leader to be the Congress face in the 2014 general elections. The RJD was there to back the Congress in Bihar. “We will render all our support to Rahul.”

Probably as part of keeping faith with the Congress, Prasad also reversed his stance on the Lokpal bill. “Earlier I had opposed the bill as people advocating it were demeaning the Parliament and its members,” he said. The target, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), came in for further criticism. “People would one day realise that AAP had only made false promises for political mileage,” he said.

The Modi wave exists “only in media”. “Capitalists and some international forces are propping him up. The BJP has unleashed a psychological war by using wealth and a section of media,” he said.
