Remember Anil Kapoor of Bollywood blockbuster Nayak who takes governance to peoples’ doorsteps. Well, its all set to be repeated in Bihar with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar deciding to take his governance to villages with the launching of his Vikas Yatra from third week of this month.
“It’s time to take the governance to peoples’ doorstep,” said Kumar while announcing his intention to have a first hand look at the development in the countryside on Thursday. “It’s like Janata Ke Darbar Mein Mukhyamantri programme. I’ll go between the people, live with them, know their grievances and address their problems,” he said while explaining the concept behind the Yatra.
He would be having the back-up of entire system with a moving mini-Secretariat assisting in passing the instructions.
The Yatra, in all likelihood, would kickstart from January 19 or January 20, from Bagaha in West Champaran, the land from Mahatma Gandhi launched his movement for Indigo Cultivators. Incidentally, Kumar had started his Nyay Yatra in August 2005 from this place itself, when he was denied to form government.
“I will camp in villages, stay in Swiss cottages, meet people in the first half and then review the development schemes with officials in the second half before moving to another destination. Officials of the state government have been asked to prepare a detail itinerary in this regard and have instructed them to keep programmes at a distance of every 20-25 kilometres. I want to see on my own the actual work and get a feel of the real picture,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Though the Chief Minister denies that this Yatra has anything to do with elections, his announcement has enthused the party circles, which clearly see it a exercise to gauge public mood and win over them. “It has nothing to do with Lok Sabha poll but is directly related to governance. This is the only working season to gauge public difficulties,” said Kumar.
The first phase of the Yatra would continue till February when elections are likely to be announced and would resume after the Lok Sabha poll.
