Kumar asked senior superintendent of police BS Meena and district magistrate JK Sinha to jointly probe the case and submit a report.

Roshan, a resident of Saran district, was found hanging from a fan at a lodge here. Roshan had not got hostel accommodation on the PMCH campus and was staying in the lodge.

Roshan's father, Kameshwar Ram, a State Bank of India official, told HT his son had complained to him about seniors tormenting him in the name of ragging.

Ram said, "My son had told me that 'bosses' (seniors are apparently referred to as 'boss' in the PMCH) had demanded 'chanda' (donation) of Rs 1,200 from him for Saraswati Puja. I had given him Rs 1,500 for that. On the fateful day, after paying his share of donation, he returned crying to his room with his friend." Ram added: "If he was not tortured physically or mentally, why would he return sobbing to his room after paying what the seniors had demanded?"

Meanwhile, PMCH principal Dr NP Yadav denied that Roshan's suicide was due to ragging.
