An insurgent of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was killed in an encounter with Tripura State Rifles (TSR) at Adhikaripara in Dhalai disrict, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched an operation at Adhikaripara, a remote place yesterday and came under heavy fire by the insurgents.
The TSR jawans retaliated and fire was exchanged between the two sides.
The militants fled the scene to the nearby forest. Later during the search of the place a bullet-riddled body was recovered, DIG (police control) Nepal Das said.
A country-made gun was also recovered, he said.
Senior police officials have rushed to the spot with reinforcement and have launched a combing operation to track down the militants, he added.
