The last chance of cricket being part of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi seemed to have evaporated with the BCCI and the Indian Olympic Association not being able to meet eye to eye on the issue.
While the BCCI disapproved the 20-20 format for the CWG, the Indian Olympic Association squarely placed the responsibility for deciding on the format on the Board itself.
"The BCCI does not want to play 20-20 cricket in Commonwealth Games. We think that format should not be encouraged," Treasurer N Srinivasan said after the Board's Working Committee meeting.
Secretary Niranjan Shah said the Board would consider if the IOA came up with a proposal to have the conventional limited overs version.
IOA President Suresh Kalmadi, however, said it was the duty of the BCCI as the host sporting federation to decide on what format to have.
Kalmadi said the BCCI first had to decide, "Whether they want to be part of the Commonwealth Games."
"We are not insisting on whether it should be 20-20 or 50-50. It is for the ICC (cricket's world governing body) and the BCCI to decide," the IOA chief said.
