With no signs of rain, the civic body’s warnings of excessive rainfall coupled with high tide on June 25 to result in floodlike situation have seen Mumbaikars gearing up for the day.
However, the Meteorological Department said it had not issued any alert or warning for heavy rains for the month of June.
“So far there is no alert issued for the month of June and if we come to learn of the likelihood of heavy rains we will issue an alert at least two days in advance,” a official from MeT department said.
Based on theoretical calculation by experts, the BMC assessed that if June 24, June 25, July 23, July 24, July 25 this year are coupled with heavy rainfall, then it would see the same combination of surging seas and heavy downpours that brought the city to its knees on 26/7.
The high tide recorded during the 26/7 floods saw high tide of 4.48 m with rainfall of 944 mm within 24 hours starting 8.30 am on July 26 to 8.30 am on July 27.
“We have made all the necessary arrangemets and we are well prepared for the monsoon this year. We along with BEST, Railways, Fire and Health department will make sure that the citizens do not ace problems this year,” Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak said.
