The CBI will probe the three freshly registered cases against Rathore and other police officials. The FIRs alleged non-bailable offences such as attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, etc.

Panchkula SP Maneesh Chaudhry, who is also a member of the Special Investigating Team probing the fresh cases against former Haryana police chief Rathore, said a CBI team would reach Panchkula early next week.

State government officials said on condition of anonymity that although the state formed the special investigation team on December 30, it made a reference to the Centre on January 5, seeking the transfer of these cases to the CBI.

Rathore was convicted of molesting teenager Ruchika 19 years ago and was sentenced to six months’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 by a special CBI court on December 21, 2009.
