The current investigation of police has concentrated on checking of suspected foreigners belonging to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan residing in the district.

Two suspected youths, nabbed by the state police from a dharamshala in Hardoi district on the basis of sketches of suspected terrorists released by the Varanasi police, were released after detailed interrogation by police and intelligence sleuths here a couple of days back.

The parents of youths were directed to produce the suspected youths as and when the investigating team wanted them for further investigation.

Besides, four Afganistani nationals living in the city were also interrogated and released by the police. But no police official is ready to talk about the progress of the investigation.

It may be noted that Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has given a month to the IG of STF to work out the sensational blast case in Varanasi. The STF has been maintaining contacts with cops of 10 states in the country to get clues about the mastermind of the bomb blasts.

The District Police and STF sleuths have included those foreigners in their range of inquiry who have been living in sensitive areas of the city such as Beniabagh, Nai Sarak, Bazardeeha, Jakkha, Konia and Bhadau Chungi. Cops are also preparing details about such foreigners. It has come to light that most of the Afghanistani nationals are money lenders.

After the blasts, jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had been deployed at other major temples in the city but they were removed on Wednesday and policemen are now deployed there.

Foolproof and adequate security in major overcrowded temples like Tilbhandeshwar Mahadeo, Kedareshwer Mahadeo, Durga temple and Manas Mandir has not been ensured.
