The 90-day limit for filing a chargesheet will lapse by Thursday. The agency’s decision came in the wake of the CBI getting forensic reports from a three-member medical board set up by it and the Hyderabad-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), which ruled out "any sexual assault or rape on the two victims” confirmed a CBI source.

HT had first reported on August 19 that according to the CBI director Ranjit Sinha, the agency had found that the original allegations against the five arrested persons were ‘prima facie not correct’. Indicating that the agency will not file the chargesheet in the 90-day limit, Sinha had said, “The time-frame is there. But the most important objective for the CBI is to ensure that only those who were guilty must get chargesheeted, not the innocents.”
