"It is not a question of competition. It is good that others are coming up as more extend their helping hand, the better it would be for the affected people," Bose told newspersons in Kolkata.

Both Bhattacharjee and Banerjee went to severely-affected areas bordering the Sunderbans in South 24 Parganas district, which suffered the most due to the cyclone, to take stock of the situation and monitor relief work.

Bhattacharjee went to Nimpith in the morning and held a meeting with district officials and NGOs there.

Immediately after taking charge of the Railway ministry in Kolkata, Banerjee travelled to Namkhana which is further south of Nimpith.

Both went around affected villages and talked to the displaced persons.

"We never see party colour in distributing relief or to be with the distressed in any natural disaster," he said.
